How To Date If You Are An Introvert

Being an introvert means that you are more focused on the internal feelings you feel, such as panic, fear; rather than the external stimulants. Some of these may be conversations, groups, or activities. You would be considered a thoughtful and quiet person. Dating as an introvert may seem difficult, and it is. But, all dating is difficult in today’s world, even for the extroverts in the world.

How is it possible to begin dating, much less someone you have met through an online dating site?

Here Are Some Ways To Help You Date If You Are an Introvert

Talking To Others

Speaking with another person, one that you met online, is going to be one of the most difficult tasks when it comes to online dating. Small talk is a necessary evil in this case though. As an introvert, you feel that if you must talk, it needs to be a full and deep conversation. The small talk gets you nowhere. This is the time to combine how you feel about talking with the purpose of why you are on an online dating site such as Tinder.

Be Open and Try To Talk To Others

If you are the type that enjoys going for a coffee at the local shop, instead of listening to your headphones, try listening to random conversations around you. You may have a chance to partake in a conversation with a small group.

There is also the chance that someone will want to share a table with you. As long as you appear to be open to it, let them join you.

Try To Hang Out With Small-Group

As an Introvert, you do better in a small group setting. You know that being at the office party all night is not something you can do. Attend for a short time, then make an invite for someone or even two people to join you for coffee or dessert somewhere. This is a smaller sized group where it does not get overwhelming for you. They will get to know you better since you will be more talkative and open.

Try Online Dating

This is where you shine in a conversation. It can only last for so long. The time will come where it is time to meet the person you are having conversations with. By that time, you will be ready to meet and have an open real-life conversation.

Real-Life Dating

When the meeting time comes, walk-in, and rather than allowing the feelings that all eyes are on you, look around and find the person you are meeting. If that person is not there yet, pick out a person and tell yourself that you would like to get to know them better, then strike up a conversation with the person.

Dating Sites

Today, you can find a dating site for virtually any type of person you are or what your interests are. Online dating sites and apps are great for those of us who relate to being an introvert, a wallflower, or simply too shy. So, go to Tinder, OkCupid, or any of these popular dating apps, create an account, and get to work. There are many articles on this website that will help you set up your profile properly and start talking to people you like.

Control Your Emotions and Pressure

Yes, you need to learn to take the pressure off yourself. That first date, well, it will be awkward. Most first dates are. So relax and take a chance. Use icebreakers or jokes if necessary. I heard a perfect one the other day that broke the ice for both of us. “Do you want to hear a ghost joke?’ The person will likely say okay. Then you come back with ‘That’s the spirit!” That is truly kind of dumb, but admit it, you smiled.

Prepare For Your Date As Best As Possible

Make a mental list of possible talking subjects. Topics such as hobbies, activities, and sports are always good topics, to begin with. Be sure to use open-ended questions. This means the other person needs to say more than just yes or no. For instance, ‘I saw on your profile that you like football. Which team is your favorite, and why?’

Avoid Things That Make You Uncomfortable

If the idea of sitting at a coffee shop, bar, or diner feels too stressful for you, make plans for a dinner show, comedy club, or something that you can watch and enjoy and speak when you are ready. The idea is that the more comfortable you are with a place you go on a date or the activity you do on this date, the better you will be on that date.

Be Ready

It may get to the point that you are having a difficult time being out in public. Have a plan two if possible. Hopefully, you had already told the person that you are not one to be in public with lots of people. If so, they would understand that you have to go. Maybe the two of you could take a short walk together. This will help calm you down.

Date Someone That Gets You

Do your best to find someone who is capable of understanding the difference between being shy and being an introvert. When a person gets what you are going through, they understand and are capable of helping you get over the little bumps as well as the large ones.
