Is Dating A Thing Of The Past

Is Dating A Thing Of The Past?

Dating is outdated, or so it would seem. Some might even think dating to be an old-fashioned thing, some word that describes their ancient idea of two people coming together. To them, dating is an obsolete practice that should be disregarded. What do you think? Is dating dead? Hold that thought while I subsequently share mine.

Engaging in sophisticated exchanges such as asking questions back and forth and getting to know someone seems like a herculean task for today’s generation. For them, it just takes too much effort and time. It is quite impossible when most people have become extremely attached to their phones. It is practically an addicSophisticated exchange, and playful conversation takes too long an addiction. Many people now would rather settle for random flings, hookups ad say they are taking things slow and trying to know each other when they are doing all these except the most important of all, actually getting to know each other.

A fact or rather a truth in many communities which I hope to shed light on is the fact that many people who claim that dating does not exist do not even know what dating means, even though they are in one way or the other involved in a fraction of it mostly because they are subscribed to these online dating platforms like Tinder and Bumble and Hinge.

Dating: Then Vs. Now

In as much as many people are so lazy and unwilling to go through the dating route, it is, in fact, the savior for people in many communities these days. Well, when they give it a chance.

Online Dating

In the old times, the concept of dating was equally matchmaking in many societies. For you find a partner or someone to potentially date, they are usually found by one’s parents but everything happening right now is entirely different. People hardly rely on their friends or parents to hook them up to someone with the hope that a potential relationship would be developed.

Rather than waiting till your parents point out that potential partner, people just reach out to other people in the DMs. Instead, people get online or get on these dating platforms and are taking action into their own hands. Most online dating platforms have even made it much easier, you just swipe right, and yes, a relationship is developing. It is that easy. The dating scene has drastically changed with the emergence of online dating platforms in the last century. In the early days, online dating was something you only found your recently divorced relative on. Still, statistics show 20% of the relationship that begins nowadays start online.

The Number of People You Can Date

Apart from the fact that online dating has allowed individuals to take the entire dating experience into their hands. It has also marginally increased the possibility of finding a date. Many of the online dating communities that exist are large, which directly means that you have an increased chance of meeting more than one potential partner at once, not only that but different kinds of people with varying interests. The audience received on these platforms is quite large compared to what you would enjoy if you had decided to go the traditional way.

Allow me to reference Stephen Merchant on Conan, “I would have been happier in the middle ages … you just lived in a small village, you didn’t know there was another village you never left, and just married somebody of a similar age who wasn’t dead yet.” The fact that we are on the internet and technological age ensures that practically no one is missed out, especially if most people in your community are on these platforms. It draws your attention to the very cute guy the next day and the one who is miles away from you. In some cases, he might even be in a different country.

Still, there is almost no barrier to the audience you can receive on these platforms. The option of getting in contact with various people all over the world has never been more attractive as it in this century. People are now leaning towards getting in contact with people via online platforms and then developing relationships from there. This means people have become less bothersome about meeting people online in recent years than it was before.

In a study carried out in 2014, the average woman was reported to have kissed 15 men. She must have had two serious relations and heartbreaks before they finally choose to settle down. This was in 2015, and this is 2020, five years later. I am certain that the numbers must have increased at this point. This is even amplified by the emergence of online dating platforms.

Conversations

The entire length and context of relationships before and now have completely changed.

In the last years, before online dating become extremely rampant, the route relationships would go used to be entirely different. Those days, simply talking to someone did not suffice as a kind of relationship. Still, now, just because you are talking, you are in a relationship or dating of some sort.

But now, do you know what it means to be talking to someone? This sits on the same pedestal as having asked someone out and waiting for a reply. In this generation, we live a lot based on vibes, and if you are both talking, even if it is mildly, that directly means you “vibe,” and there’s something there. Talking t someone practically means you are exclusive without clearly stating out your desire to be committed.

Final Thoughts

What do you think after all? Is dating dead or a thing of the past? Is Dating outdated? No, dating is not outdated, and in reality, it is very much alive. It has simply taken a new form such as Online dating, and vibing and texting or talking instead of coming out plainly to ask someone out.

So, as far as I am concerned, dating is as alive and in vogue as every other thing we constantly do because new styles to it are constantly being introduced.

Dating is outdated, or so it would seem. Some might even think dating to be an old-fashioned thing, some word that describes their ancient idea of two people coming together. To them, dating is an obsolete practice that should be disregarded. What do you think? Is dating dead? Hold that thought while I subsequently share…
